Paralegal (Claims Developer)

Legal Help for Veterans, PLLC, a law firm with a nationwide practice dedicated to representing veterans with service-connected disability claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a full-time Claims Developer to assist in the development of veterans’ disability claims before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals and VA Regional Offices.

About the role:
Claims Developers review clients’ files and help obtain additional evidence necessary for appeals. Claims Developers will also determine the appropriate forms that need to be sent to veterans, request and review medical and/or military records, request and review additional documentation, conduct online research, and draft appeals. Claims Developers are the primary point of contact for the client and are expected to communicate with the client in order to obtain evidence needed for the claim. The Claims Developer will work alongside other Claims Developers, our attorneys, and administrative staff to develop claims to maximize success for our clients on their service-connected claims.

Duties:

  • Managing and maintaining client files
  • Drafting, reviewing, and updating appeals for submittal to VA or the Board of Veterans’ Appeals
  • Learning VA case law, statutes, and regulations and how to apply the information within appeal
  • Tracking and maintaining all appeal deadlines
  • Communicating with clients via phone, email, and mail
  • Reviewing records
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or paralegal certificate, preferred
  • Ability to work autonomously and be self-motivated
  • Ability to apply business English when writing, proofreading and editing
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office suite, Internet, company software)
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Writing skills to ensure that documentation is clear, concise and persuasive
  • Deadline orientated, to include the handling of multiple deadlines
  • Phone skills to include communicating with difficult clients
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
Job Type: Full-time
  • Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
  • Expected hours: 40 per week
