Volunteer Coordinator & Production Assistant

Status: Full-time; Exempt

Suggested Hours: M-F, 8:30pm-4:30pm; work to be completed in-office at above address

Reports to: Production Manager 

Job Summary: Under the direction and guidance of the Production Manager, Seedlings’ Volunteer Coordinator & Production Assistanhelps with the production of braille books as well as helps facilitate the day-to-day operations of the production department, including assisting volunteers. 

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteer Coordinator – approximately 40%

  • Manages all volunteer scheduling 

  • Prepares volunteer tasks in coordination with the production department

  • Manages all volunteer communication, including monthly updates to volunteers

  • Coordinates corporate group volunteer opportunities 

  • Plans annual volunteer appreciation event 

  • Acts as primary point of contact for all volunteers and builds strong relationships to increase volunteer longevity

  • Manages volunteer contact information and updates in Little Green Light as needed

Production Assistant – approximately 60%

  • Process braille-only books, training provided (run braille embossers, run burster machines, bind, check, title, and shelve books)

  • Assemble print-braille-and-picture books: use paper cutter to cut plastic sheets of braille into pieces and affix each piece under the corresponding print words on each page; check and shelve books

  • Collaborate with other Production and Shipping Assistant(s) to ensure department efficiency and coverage 

  • Other office duties, as assigned, which may change at any time with or without notice

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • Braille knowledge or willingness to take an online course to learn basic braille 

  • Experience with nonprofits a plus

  • Computer skills, including use of the following programs: Microsoft 365

  • A desire to help give the gift of literacy to blind children around the world

Physical Demands 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods at a computer; stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; the ability to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.

Salary Range: $28,000 to $32,000 commensurate with experience
